A Scottish castle and the Marbella mansion that nurtured boyband One Direction were among the most-viewed properties on Rightmove in 2018.
The online listings site revealed its most popular properties, using data to add up each click on properties in the UK, Europe and beyond.
Miles Shipside of Rightmove said: “It’s easy to see why some of these jaw-droppingly glamour properties have attracted so much attention on Rightmove, whether it’s people just wanting to have a nosy inside some of the mansions or those looking for design inspiration.”
Gated entrance appeals
No.1 on the list is a six-bedroom mansion in Hale, near Manchester. The property, built over four floors, has a gated entrance and comes with a £5 million price tag.
Next up is Glenborrodale Castle on the shores of Loch Sunart in Argyll in the West Highlands. A five-storey Baronial mansion in red sandstone, the castle comes with its own island, a lodge, detached coach house, boathouse and jetty.
The castle sits in 132 acres and is on the market for £3.75 million.
A country house estate in south Cheshire also appealed to browsers. A long tree-lined drive leads to courtyard range of buildings and cottages that includes an indoor swimming pool and gym, plus a wine room and orangery. The house sold for £5.95 million.
Home that’s poetry in motion
In St Albans, a seven-bedroom home comes with a price that can only be revealed on application. The property has an in-built music system and home cinema and is built over four levels.
Head to Devon for the College, the former family home of poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge. This 10-bedroom mansion includes a west wing library that was designed for the poet’s 18,000 books. For £7 million, you can walk in historic footsteps.
Further afield, Kunfunadhoo Island in the Maldives is the location of a luxurious island mansion, the largest private residence in a five-star resort.
The home includes nine spacious bedrooms and a swimming pool with sunken dining area and its own private water slide – truly paradise on earth for the small consideration of £11.36 million.
Get the x factor
On Spain’s Costa del Sol sits Villa Moana near Marbella. This ocean-facing property was the filming location for Simon Cowell in the 2010 series of The X Factor that brought One Direction to global fame.
