The one thing that most home buyers want when it comes to finding a new home is a garage.
That’s the word that came top in the list of most-searched-for terms on Zoopla’s website in the last 12 months.
Outdoor space was also popular with users of the property portal with garden taking second place behind garage with parking in third spot.
Other popular terms in the top 10 of most-searched-for words were bungalow, detached, annex and freehold.
Rounding out the list were rural, acre and sea view.
Insight into buyer desires
According to Zoopla, the words or phrases people type into their search engine when looking for property offer insight into what they actually want to buy.
Their data also revealed the regional variations that apply across the country.
In London, where house prices are the highest in the UK, Help to Buy made it into the top 10 of search words for house hunters. The same phrase was nowhere near as popular elsewhere.
Reflect local needs
In the south, cottage and sea view made their top 10.
Acre and rural featured high on the search terms for those in the east of England and Yorkshire and the Humber.
Laura Howard, of Zoopla, said: “There are unique differences that reflect the needs of local property markets.”
